Full Tour Itinerary

Hoi An- capital of Thua Thien Hue province (Hue)- DMZ/Tunnels of Vinh Moc / capital of Quảng Bình Province (Dong Hoi)- Phong Nha-historic site of Khe Sanh- Prao-Hoi An (980 km)

We set off on our Vietnam bike tour from Hoi An and head all the way up to Phong Nha. We take the coastline to wonder the amazing natural scenery, and then following the famous HCM trail, we return to our base, Hoi An. It is an exciting journey that takes you deep into the unknown of the Vietnamese culture, and its rich history, as you get a chance to see the most breath-taking views and the profound beauty of the countryside, from Hue, situated on the river banks of Song Huong River, Phong Nha, and its superb National Park, and the historically famous city of Quang Tri.
We will also test our riding skills with the challenging twisting road of the Hai Van pass, a spot with scenic beauty and one of the major passes located in Highway 1A. The scenery on both sides of the pass is beyond imagination, and gives you a unique blend between the sea view and the beach, and the mountain views, characterized by rich vegetation and tropical jungles.
The Vietnam bike tour adventure never ends, and the next stop will be at Ke Bang at Phong Nha, where you can admire the biggest and largest Asian limestone karst caves. Finally, the Vietnamese Demilitarized Zone that showcases the area where people fought for their freedom and independence, and the impressive Vinh Moc tunnel, will try to compete in beauty and awe with every other eye-catching meter we pass by and through! Get ready for more staggering scenery and adrenaline-pumping experience if you go now!

Day 1: Hoi An – Hue (150 km)

The Vietnam bike tour day starts with us following the small road through the traditional rice paddies and all the way up to Marble Mountains, to explore the pagodas found on them and the caves, which are places where you can see awesome passion-stone sculptures made by hand. Then we go to the My Khe beach (among the world’s most spectacular beaches) and the Hai Van pass that we will travel through. Hai Van means Sea and Mountain of Clouds, which definitely justify its name, as you will be able to have an arresting view of the ocean, while being surrounded by clouds! The area is perfect for taking photographs or shooting video as it offers fantastic views and a dazzling panorama of the Vietnamese landscape.
The next stop on the Vietnam motorbike tour finds us on a floating local restaurant eating lunch, before we continue to the Elephant Springs-the utmost place for relaxation and leisure. You can also swim here if you so desire! Weather permitting, we can also visit the City of Tombs, along the An Bang beach. In any other case, we will ride along highway 1, and stop at the imposing Tam Giang lagoon, at the Fishing village.

We spend the night in Hue.

Day 2: Hue – Dong Hoi via DMZ (200 km)

The citadel of Quang Tri is the first thing we visit in this day. This is a place with much historical significance as it suffered a great deal (81 days and nights), during the 1972 attacks. The small road will lead us to the French-built Hien Luong steel beam bridge, or the Peace Bridge as people also like to call it, that we will cross over. This bridge signifies the physical border between the North with South Vietnam. The Ben Hai and Here River nearby are noteworthy landmarks that have played a significant role during the country’s war with the Americans, at the time when Vietnam was divided into 2 zones (the north and south), as per the Geneva Accords, in 1954. Ever since, the 17th parallel has been closely connected with the history of Vietnam.

The tunnels of Vinh Moc is where we head next, where we can see an entire village having gone underground, in 1960, by the unanimous decision of the locals, so to survive the war and bombing. In this complex of tunnels, we can see complete households, with kitchens, wells, and rooms for each family member!

As soon as we finish exploring the tunnels, we leave them behind and arrive at a local beach. The afternoon sun finds us heading east, driving along the Ho Chi Minh trail up to Dong Hoi.

Day 3: Dong Hoi – National Park of Phong Nha (60 km)

We eat breakfast and begin today’s journey to Phong Nha National Park; a phenomenal site that we will be free to walk around all throughout the day. We will also see Asia’s longest limestone cave, as we explore the caves located here, and please our palate with local cuisine, when we eat lunch at a local restaurant. The afternoon is the part of the day where we can either swim in the Moc springs, wander around, or walk in the bewildering tropical forests.

Day 4: Phong Nha – Khe Sanh (via the HCM trail) (220 km)

Travelling west along the original HCM trail, we see many awe-inspiring limestone karsts, and enchanting old-growth jungle that will definitely blow your mind with its wilderness and natural beauty. We then challenge ourselves and drive the most craggy landscape of our entire trip, before we finally reach Khe Sanh.

Day 5: Khe Sanh – Aluoi to Prao (190 km)

Today is a day full of excitement, as we say goodbye to our friendly hosts in Khe Sahn, and visit the houses-on-stilts; a distinguishing house formation of the ethnic minorities that live on the way to Prao. The Dakrong bridge leads us back on the HCM trail, and as we approach the Ta Rut town, we have a chance to engage with the Pa Co minority community, as we walk through their land.

The Vietnam bike tour continues with a mesmerizing ride through the most incredible Vietnamese passes, on the newly-constructed and free-from-traffic road. The view is once again heart-stopping dominated by the sights of primitive forests as seen in the majestic mountain range of Truong Son. The peace and tranquility that this place gives out will take you away for sure. With this spectacular views in mind, we arrive at the town of Prao and will stay in a local homestay.

Day 6: Prao – Hoi An (160 km)

Today is the last day of the Vietnam bike tour. The small roads will lead us to ethnic minority communities and astounding waterfalls, where swimming and relaxing are a must-do! We then descend and ride to the Marble Mountain, with the amazing caves, the splendid pagodas and the hand-made sculptures. Our last stop is at the Danang beach and the vegetable village, and then we head to Hoi An.
